The Symposium attracted and hosted 65 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad and the topics for the symposium range in diverse fields of humanities, social and natural sciences.
On April 11, 2019, the 6th International Student Symposium organized by Faculty of Education and Humanities in partnership with the British Council, University of Applied Sciences FH Burgenland, Student Parliament of IBU and Student Association of Faculty of Education (SAFE) was successfully held at International Burch University in Sarajevo. The Symposium attracted and hosted 65 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad and the topics for the symposium range in diverse fields of humanities, social and natural sciences. The participants from different universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely International Burch University, University of Sarajevo, University ‘Džemal Bijedić’, University of Mostar, University of Bihać and University of Tuzla, as well as some participants from our partner Austrian university, i.e. University of Applied Sciences FH Burgenland as well as from the University of Vienna, had a chance to present their papers and /or posters from their field of interest.
The Symposium was opened by the Dean of Faculty of Education and Humanities, Assoc. Prof. Senad Bećirović, who expressed a warm welcome to all the guests particularly the participants of the symposium by saying “as I look at the audience this morning, I can’t help but feel a surge of hope and pride to see so many young and inspiring researchers and future academicians in our midst. I feel hope seeing the students from all across Bosnia and Herzegovina who have assembled here to present their work, make new friends, and once again challenge themselves on the road to professional and personal fulfillment”. The dean also stated that the brilliant, talented, spirited, young people present at the symposium are the future and that this event is a time in their lives when they have made a very important step in making sure that that future is bright.
Prof. Dr. Damir Marjanović, Rector of International Burch University, also addressed the audience and whole-heartedly welcomed the participants stating that he as the rector of this university is very happy to welcome the students at such an important event which provides them with the opportunity to present their papers in an international milieu.
The opening ceremony was closed by a wonderful performance of the traditional Bosnian song by English language and literature department student Ilma Karahmet.
The whole-day Symposium program included two paper and poster sessions, where the participants from different fields had the opportunity to present their papers and posters in front of the audience and answer some relevant questions. The symposium also hosted two distinguished keynote speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Besmir Fidahić, who held a lecture on Interpretation in Legal Context and shared his invaluable experience in translation and interpretation in the legal context, and Ms. Hisako Tokitomo, who talked about the traditional Japanese Dyeing Technique and held a very interesting and inspiring workshop related to this technique. All the visitors expressed their deep satisfaction with the overall organization of the event and also stated that they are looking forward to similar forthcoming events.
